WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY
Held each year, on September 10th.
The first World Suicide Prevention Day was observed in 2002. In 2017, True Experience, with the support of community members, organized the first annual recognition day across Haldimand County. “Igniting Hope” was held at Central Park in Dunnville, bringing together over 150 participants in a shared commitment to raising awareness and offering support.

Each year on September 10th, community members wear bright yellow shirts and walk the streets of Dunnville to show solidarity with those affected by suicide. Residents wave from their homes, ask questions, or even join the walkers, creating a visible expression of care and connection. The walk concludes at Central Park, where a BBQ and gathering provide a safe space for sharing personal stories, reflecting on the profound impact of suicide, and supporting one another. The evening ends with a moving candle-lighting ceremony, honoring the lives lost and reaffirming hope for the future.

The event is a powerful reminder of the strength of community, the importance of compassion, and the difference that connection and understanding can make in the lives of those impacted by suicide.
